Mrida

Mrida, derived from Sanskrit, refers to soil, earth, or clay. Beyond its physical presence beneath our feet, earth is one of the five great elements—a foundation of life, a source of fertility, and a quiet witness to the passage of time.

The Mrida Series is an abstract exploration of earth in its many forms: soil, clay, stone, and the landscapes they shape. Through colour, texture, and layered forms, the series draws attention to the often-overlooked visual richness of the ground beneath us.

The series was inspired in part by a visit to Mumbai, where the depth and intensity of the volcanic soil transformed the surrounding landscape, making its greens appear almost fluorescent. This encounter prompted a deeper reflection on the extraordinary range of colours held within the earth—from muted and weathered tones to vivid, unexpected hues.

Through Mrida, I seek to reveal the quiet beauty of earth as both material and metaphor: ancient yet constantly changing, grounding yet full of possibility.
