Coastal Colours
Coastal Colours is a series of abstract paintings that explores the changing colours, movement and atmosphere of coastal landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the meeting of sea, sand and sky, the works reflect the fluid and constantly evolving character of the ocean.
The series examines the contrasts inherent in coastal environments, from the movement and energy of waves to the stillness of the shoreline. Shifting light, seasonal changes and the subtle transitions of colour across water and land inform the compositions.
Through layers of colour, texture and gestural movement, I translate these observations into abstract forms. Rather than representing a specific coastline, the paintings focus on capturing the sensory experience of the ocean, its rhythms, expansiveness and changing moods.
Coastal Colours brings together individual impressions of the coastal environment, exploring the relationship between movement and stillness, and the ways in which colour and abstraction can evoke a sense of place without directly depicting it.

Coastal Colours 2 examines the shifting colours and atmospheric qualities of the ocean, drawing on the natural transitions between water, shoreline and sky.
Inspired by the constantly changing coastal environment, the painting explores the relationship between movement and stillness. The rhythmic motion of waves, the softness of sand and the variations in light and colour provide a visual reference for the composition.
Working through abstraction, I use layered colours, textures and fluid forms to interpret these elements, allowing them to merge and interact without representing a particular place. The composition seeks to convey the changing character of the ocean through colour and movement.

Coastal Colours 3 explores the visual rhythms and changing atmosphere of the coastal environment, with particular attention to the interaction of colour, light and movement.
The painting draws inspiration from the fluid boundaries between sea, sand and sky, where shifting tides and changing light continually transform the landscape. These natural transitions inform the composition, creating a balance between areas of movement and calm.
Through an intuitive process of layering and blending colours, I explore the expressive possibilities of abstraction. Rather than recreating a recognisable seascape, I focus on conveying the atmosphere and visual impressions of a moment experienced by the ocean.
Within my Coastal Colours series, this work reflects my continuing exploration of nature's changing forms and the ability of colour, texture and composition to communicate the character of a place beyond literal representation.
