Mother and Child

”Mother and Child” is an abstract representation (Orphism) of my relationship with my son and it extends to all mothers and their children. I depicted our world through the use of circles, lines and colours.
It's an interpretation of a photograph of me holding my son. It could be any mother holding her child in a warm embrace. The warmer colours depict “The Mother” and the cooler colours depict “The Child”. While the overlapping circles and lines depict our world together, the different colour schemes represent the different entities we are.
I believe its important to encourage agency and independence of thoughts in children for them to be able to grow. Even though our worlds are intermingled, our entities are distinct. And it is only when we recognize this difference, we would grow as individuals. It is said that children learn from observing their parents.
